First time visiting this Baltimore Little Italy gem. Great happy hour from 4-7 weekdays.
Enjoyed the Penne Pasta Pomodoro, Calamari and Caprese salad. and the wife enjoyed the clams. The drinks, a Cosmo and a Manhattan were delicious craft cocktails and we will be back again!l -

Maryland / Baltimore Vegan Week Menu Reviews:
It pains me to give only 2 stars to La Scala, but for vegan week I must. The service is great, the atmosphere is lovely. And while my dining companion who ate off of the regular menu was very happy.... I was a quite disappointed.
There was a full three course menu available for vegan week, and of that I had the grilled Caesar salad, the risotto, and the peaches baked in amaretto.
The Caesar dressing was ok, but as you can see... I got about 3 pieces of lettuce and dressing. No croutons, no garnish.... just dressing. Not up to the usual salad course standard.
The risotto wasn't really risotto. It was pretty much rice and peas. Again, a dish that if made regularly would probably be delicious here ... but the "vegan option" just seemed like they removed the creamy-ness and didn't add anything back.
The peaches were the best part of the meal. They were very delicious. But not enough to redeem the rest of the menu.
Overall I think this restaurant is usually a great option for omnivores. However, for their vegan week efforts, it was nowhere near as successful. Vegans beware, they do not know how to modify their plates to make you a satisfactory meal. -

Came here for my gf birthday. The first night the whole block apparently experienced a blackout. I was hoping the power would come back so I sat at the bar to wait and got a drink. I had a hat on and in the darkness was told to remove it. I mean priorities? Also, this place has dress code. It's a nice place.
Second night we went back with power. Very nice establishment. The owner is from Sicily and greets each table, nice touch. You can also get his imported olive oil. I would definitely buy it, this is real untouched olive oil. Anyway, we had great drinks and martinis. Buzzed like a honey bee and ordered the antipasto, then for entree the carbonara and the fettuccini. The anti pasta was very fresh, well done cheese and curated cuts. The olive oil makes it even better. The carbonara was as close to sitting in Rome as you can get I feel. The sauce is a little but thinner than I'd like but all the flavor was dead on. The pasta fresh, where you can tell it's made in house. The fettuccini she loved, and it had good flavor as well. We got a complimentary tiramisu for her birthday with a candle. I ordered the classic cannoli and espresso. The cannoli shell was house made and the cheese light and sweet. Loved this place, if I wasn't from NY I'd be back at least a few times a year. -

La Scala has quickly become my favorite happy hour in the city. We sat down at the bar for happy hour and saw they had a $7 espresso martini that was described as "the best in Baltimore". We ordered two of those and man, it lived up to the name. All the food on the HH menu was $7 as well so we ordered penne a la vodka, penne bolognese, and calamari. The restaurant offered us some bread along with the calamari while we waited for our pastas to come out, which was a nice touch considering we were sitting at the bar.
The calamari was perfectly fried and paired with an amazing marinara sauce. We ordered two more martinis while we waited for our pastas to come out (Key Lime martini and a Dirty martini with stuffed Gorgonzola olives) and those were delicious and very strong. Our pastas came out at that point and I was shell shocked at how large the portions were for happy hour. 1/3 of the house made penne bolognese and I was stuffed and in foodie heaven.
Service was great the whole night! I'm definitely coming back to try out more of their food and to grab another Espresso martini!
